The many features of a historical siteThe Auberge de l’Onde is located on the site of the former building of the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit, an association of laymen established in the 13th century. For more than seven centuries, this residence has been at the heart of the life of the village of St-Saphorin.
This edifice, which took its name from the coat of arms of the village itself, has served many purposes throughout the centuries. Since the Reform in 1536, the Communal Council, a court of justice, a butcher’s shop and --well in the past already -- a pub, were housed within its walls.
The Auberge de l’Onde, the alleyways which surround it, and the breathtaking setting of the village summon the still-vibrant memory, so present in the hearts of the Vaudois citizens, of the artists who lived in the area (Jean-Villars Gilles, Paul Budry, Charles-Albert Cingria, C.-F. Landry) and loved it so.
